Photos From Long Beach, WA, 2019

Known for shit weather, the Washington coastline can be a bit of a toss up when it comes to photos, but even when the weather isn't particularly good for beach going, it can still be great for photos. During the summer, weekly events draw in thousands from around the state, so there are opportunities for all types of photographers; from landscapists, astrophotographers, street photography and even instagrammers, it's all there.

out of hibernation and back for the new year.

finally went out to take some photos since the Alaskan Way Viaduct is closing for good this weekend. i ended up hitting the Pier 66 Rooftop Park at sunset then moved back to the Pike Place Marketfront location above the viaduct. finally, i went through Post Alley on the way home. oddly, it was through Post Alley that inspired the shot i liked the most from the set.

The Learning Continues…

So I've revisited a few photos from the past year and applied what I've learned in Lightroom since then. The hope was to take what I felt were good photos and try to make them better, possibly even worth printing, since I liked the views.

Seattle’s 5 Most Famously Photographed Spots and 1 Up and Comer

I'm going to list these 5, famously photogenic Seattle vistas with their proper names, address and an example or two from my own visits there, if I have one. These are just the 5 most commonly seen and should be automatic for any local or tourist with a camera.

It's something my family has been doing for as long as I can remember and one of those cultural touchstones in my life that reminds me of who I am. This year however, I decided to give myself a shooting challenge by limiting myself only to shutter dragged shots as a way of emphasizing all of the action, movement and colors associated with Bon Odori.

My First Ever Attempt at Astrophotography

went to Suncadia to take a week off from the city. being out near Cle Elum, it was also a chance to escape the light pollution of western Washington and attempt to capture the Milky Way Galaxy now that it's mostly above the horizon at my latitude. while I have ultra-wide lenses and fast lenses, I have not one that's both, so I chose to use the ultra-wide lens for increased opportunities for composition since I was shooting from a gap in the woods.

50 Shades of Meh

The weather today was gray. At least there was enough texture and movement to create an interesting photo, so I went to Myrtle Edwards Park to get some water shots. My route took me through the Olympic Sculpture Park, so I took a few photos there, too. Ultimately, this was an exercise in composition. It's... Continue Reading →
